OG Approach

Orton Gillingham is one of the most proven language-based methods for teaching students with language-based learning differences, such as dyslexia, to read and write.

The OG approach stresses the connection between written words and their spoken sounds. The OG principles are diagnostic, prescriptive, cumulative, multisensory and success oriented. This step-by-step progression leads to a sense of mastery and competence.

The International Dyslexia Association offers a thorough explanation of the Orton Gillingham approach.

All After3 tutors are OG certified. While we always apply the principles of OG methodology when tutoring, not all students require specific focus on reading, spelling and penmanship. Depending on the student’s needs, we may focus on writing skills, comprehension strategies and/or organizational and study skills. Your child’s tutor will determine the most beneficial individualized program to suit your child’s learning profile. Our goal is to build students’ academic confidence, which enables them to become independent learners.
