The LA and math classes are taught with a maximum of 5 students per class. Students also have the opportunity to explore Science, Music, Art, Textile Arts, or Culinary Arts. In total, each student has four classes per session. 1:1 Orton Gillingham tutoring sessions is available on a case-by-case basis.
Students entering grades 2-8 are welcome at Boost Camp.
Each camp runs for 2 weeks of morning sessions.
Camp 1: Tuesday, July 3 – Friday, July 13, 2018 (no camp on the July 2nd holiday)
Camp 2: Monday, July 16 – Friday, July 27, 2018
Drop off: 8:15 – 8:30 am
Session 1: 8:30 – 9:20 am
Session 2: 9:25 – 10:15 am
Break: 10:15 – 10:30 am
Session 3: 10:35 – 11:25 am
Session 4: 11:30 am – 12:20 pm
Pick up: 12:20 – 12:35 pm
Option 1: Language Arts Small Group
The emphasis of this class will be on developing writing skills. In the Language Arts program, multiple methods and instructional strategies are used to deliver whole group and individualized learning instruction. The foundation of this program is language instruction delivered through the Orton-Gillingham approach.
Option 2: Orton Gillingham Tutoring
Orton-Gillingham 1:1 tutoring will be offered on a student-by-student basis. During this class a student works with an Orton-Gillingham certified language specialist on a program specifically designed to meet unique needs in the areas of reading, spelling, writing and handwriting. You will have the choice of three classes (classes subject to change):
In the science program, we apply inquiry based instruction, in which students take part in interactive lessons to enhance critical thinking. Participants will be encouraged to ask questions, design procedures, carry out investigations, and analyze data. Each week students will focus on a unique project.
In the math program, multi-modal materials and instructional strategies are utilized. Students are taught in small groups with up to five students. The progression of skill delivery will be individualized to meet student needs.
Tech Ed: Engineering & Woodworking
Campers will design and build simple projects using a variety of hand tools and power tools. Projects will challenge campers to be creative and to develop their problem-solving skills. Each week students will focus on a unique project.
Rock & Pop Music
This class is geared to give campers a positive music experience, while they learn to sing and play the drums, electric guitar and a variety of percussion instruments. This is a great opportunity for kids to find a way to express themselves.
Campers will have a hands-on experience of exploring different fine arts media. Each week will focus on a unique project.
Campers will develop a variety of kitchen skills including baking, snacks and simple meals. They will have an opportunity to to use fresh ingredients from the school garden to supplement their recipes.
Campers will be introduced to basic sewing skills and techniques. They will have an opportunity to create original, creative projects each week.
Campers will be able to explore their creativity with hands-on fibre arts projects, such as dying, weaving and felting. They will be be focused on creating unique projects each week.
